About us
A lender, not an insolvency firm
We help New Zealand business owners through IRD debt with plain-English guidance and, where it's the right answer, funding to clear it. Our aim is the opposite of insolvency: keep the business trading and the owner in control.
Who we are
Tax Debt Loans is a genuine private business funder. We work with small and medium New Zealand businesses that have fallen behind with Inland Revenue: companies, sole traders, partnerships and trusts in trades, hospitality, transport, retail, services and more. We help thousands of small business owners through the tax debt headache with both guidance and funding, and we've seen many businesses that thought they couldn't be saved come out the other side still trading.
We built this site because the help most owners find online comes from one of two places. IRD's own pages are calm and accurate but can't tell you what a lender would do. Insolvency firms are detailed and responsive, but their work centres on formal appointments. We wanted to sit in between: explain IRD's process honestly, show every route including the ones where we earn nothing, and offer funding when it genuinely helps.
Who we're not
We're a business lender. We're not an insolvency firm, liquidator, pre-insolvency adviser or tax agent. We don't take liquidation or administration appointments, we don't negotiate with IRD on commission, and we don't earn anything if a company is wound up. When a business can't continue, we'll say so, and suggest you speak to your accountant or a licensed insolvency practitioner.
What we believe
- Tax debt isn't a moral failing. It usually comes from timing: a late customer, a provisional tax surprise, growth that ties up cash.
- The cheapest fix is the earliest one. Penalties, interest and enforcement build fast. We'd rather hear from you at the first overdue notice than the statutory demand.
- Honesty about the free options builds trust. An IRD instalment arrangement costs nothing to apply for. Sometimes that's the right answer, and we'll tell you.
- Formal insolvency should be chosen, not defaulted into. Guarantees survive, current accounts can be chased, and professional fees can run to tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in larger matters.
What we offer
- Property-secured business loans from $20,000 to $5,000,000 (first mortgages, second mortgages and caveat-style security over residential or commercial property).
- Unsecured and cash-flow options for trading businesses, typically $5,000 to $500,000.
- Bad credit and existing IRD debt considered case by case. Business purposes only.
- Funding possible in as little as 24 hours for property-secured loans. Never a promise, because every application is assessed.
- Free tools and guides covering every IRD letter, tax type and option.
We never publish interest rates. Every loan is priced on the business's circumstances, and we'll give you the total cost in dollars so you can compare it with IRD's figures.
How we work
You tell us the shape of the problem in about 60 seconds. A real person who understands IRD's process reads it and calls you. We talk through the letters you've received, the deadlines, the routes open to you and whether funding makes sense. Please answer the enquiry accurately; it means the first call is about real options rather than guesswork.

No credit check to enquire

We don't sell or broadcast your enquiry. One team looks at your IRD position and works on it directly.
A real person reads it
Someone who understands IRD's process calls you back. Honest answers on the form mean the first call is a useful one.
Clear the IRD debt. Keep the business.
Tell us what you owe and what you own in about 60 seconds. There's no credit check when you first enquire, and a real person calls you back before anything else happens.
